Famous tourist town with ferry port (Split, Hvar, Uble) located at coast of bay Vela Luka at west part of island. It is the biggest village at island. The chief occupations are agriculture; grow vineyard, olive trees and fruits, processing of fishes, food industry, buildings of ships and tourism.
Harbor has international border. Town offer different kind of accommodation and the equipment for sport activations and recreations. Modern spa centre Kalos for rehabilitation is located by bay Kale (whit healthy mud). Palace Franulovic – Repak include town museum.Coast is very broken. Famous place for daily trip is island Osjak with protective wooden park.In surrounding is cave Vela Spilja, archeological place from neolith epoch, but Vela Luka is young town. Coast part of town was damaged by tsunami in year 1978. Church of St. Ivan from 15th century and monastery are located on the east from town near bay Gradina
